Healthy Teaching Kitchen

 Visit the Healthy Teaching Kitchen YouTube Channel to watch video recipes.

VA facilities across the country offer Healthy Teaching Kitchens (HTK) which teach Veterans and their families healthy cooking skills.  HTKs aim to improve health by teaching Veterans and their families how to make healthy food choices and by showing them how to prepare foods.  Some facilities offer cooking demonstrations while others offer hands-on participation.  A few VAs even have gardens to add locally grown food to their HTKs.  HTKs provide Veterans and their families the opportunity to sample foods they may not have tried on their own.  Many HTKs focus on disease specific conditions.  For example, an HTK with a focus on diabetes will demonstrate how to prepare meals to help manage blood sugars.  To find out if your facility has an HTK, contact your primary care dietitian nutritionist.

Many of the recipes used in HTKs can be found in the One-Pot Meals Cookbook (pdf) and the Healthy Cooking at Home Cookbook (pdf). These recipes have been put together by VA Dietitian Nutritionists accross the country.
