Kidney Disease

People with Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) maintain their kidney function better when medical nutrition therapy (MNT) is included in their treatment plan.  The purpose of MNT is to maintain good nutritional status, slow the progression of kidney disease, and treat nutrition related complications.  Key components of slowing progression of CKD are: controlling blood pressure by lowering sodium intake; avoiding high protein intake; managing diabetes; reducing intake of phosphate additives.
